Procrastination

Okay, so I'm really putting off this design project and drawing. But its only sunday and I have a whole week ahead of me so I feel alright. Anyways, I did some research for my next project in Research Studio class today, so then I played on Photoshop for the rest of the day. ;)

This is a fake Movie Poster I made. I think it would be cool to have a live action Snow White remake. I'd love Tim Burton to direct and make it spooky like he does. I'd also want the witch to have a larger role and for the dwarves to be really creepy.

This is the source image I used. I shot this of my friend Susan's Hand. I don't claim credit for Art direction; Alyssa was having her pose for a video project and I was out shooting as well so I snapped a few pics of my own of her hand.

Somehow, I lost the entire picture which included grass in the background, but i didn't need that anyway; these remains that I had served me just fine for inspiration and usable photographic material.

1up

Dave is back from his trip to SF.

He didn't present anything in class this week, but he chimed in on something just long enough to utter his famous word...

Once.

So the official count is now: 183

Drawing 3 - Color Exercise

22 x 30

Introduction to Color. This was supposed to be a quick exercise that got us beginning to work with color. We were supposed to draw a toy in Complementary colors (I chose purple and yellow. [left] ) And then we had to draw a different view in Analogous colors using the same colors as before. So the one on the right uses the same yellow, but also a cooler yellow and a warmer yellow-orange. It is complemented with purple as well as fuschia and blue.

PEEPS

Holly, Caitlin and I finally got to set up our Peep Elevator Display today! I am very pleased with How it turned out.
It took about 2 hours to actually place the peeps in the elevator, but there was some prepwork involved earlier in the week because we had to glue paper to the backs of them so that we'd be able to tape them on the walls.
We fit about 6 people into the elevator at a time, and it became very claustrophobic. People gave more space to the peeps than they gave each other.
The most interesting feedback we got was that when the door opened, it was cute, but as everyone piled in, the peeps became menacing and intrusive. (That was our goal)
Under our budget of $60, we were able to get 600 Peeps, and we used them all. We all agreed that it didn't look like 600 though.
Unfortunately, we had to take the project down after our critique. I was only up for 2 hours. :(
So thats what 600 peeps look like in the trash.

Little Chick :)

Drawing Class: we're moving on to color! I love color, but I was just starting to love black and white. Oh well. So the next drawing is of a toy that we must supply. I picked this up from the dollar store. Her name is Gilda. I am to draw her in complementary colors and then in analagous colors using chalk pastels. Wish me luck. This is a quick drawing. Only a week.

More Boredom

It's a wonder how I get any real work done because enjoy just playing on photoshop much more. I found a photo of this girl, played with the colors and saturation and placed her on a plain background with some 60s stylings for a vintage pinup.

Bond Girls

I had a pretty busy weekend, but somehow I managed to find time for an extra project.

I love these Illustrations from the covers of James Bond Novels, so I edited them together and added some backgrounds, shadows, etc. to make some cool posters. Photoshop really is a semi-productive time waster!

Drawing 2

The next drawing project is figure drawing. We were supposed to have 3 days of class with a nude model, but our model never showed up. Anyway, the project is to draw a torso, head, and one other body part in a single composition. Medium is any black & white media of your choice.

This is a 15 min. sketch I did. I think I want to use it for my final composition. My idea was to use the repeating shapes of the body to tie it all together. The twisting back can look like a face in profile and the lower back/butt looks like the bottom, meaty part of your hand.

Can't Be Without You

The first drawing project of the semester was to draw two things that go together (like PB&J, eggs and bacon, etc. but take it a step further, be more creative) and draw them in ink in a composition that shows them interacting in some way.

My original idea was to show the magnifying glass burning the ants, but from the sketches I did, I liked this composition the best. You had to have the actual objects to draw from, so i bought a mag. glass at good will, and some plastic ants from a teaching store in Newark.

The two methods you could use were to draw with a quill and ink (cross-hatching), or use ink wash, which is watered down ink applied with a paintbrush like watercolor. Or you could use both. I used the quill for the ants and the wash for everything else. The quill takes a LONG time, and a lot of patience.

My teacher wants us to make improvements and resubmit them. For that reason she said she graded them extra low and the highest grade she gave out was a B. I got a B! I am going to add crosshatching to the grass and make the shadows from the grass darker to match the ants' shadows.

I finally snapped some pictures of Dave today. He was suspicious but I told him that he could see my secret project at the end of the semester. He guessed it had something to do with aging, lol.

Here is the basic concept I am working on but it will probably get more textured once I have more words to work with. Also, blogger always dulls the colors, this image is really a pure black and white document, not this strange brownish gray.

"Again"...again

Dave Spoke again this week, so the count has gone up!

2/10 30
2/17 90
2/24 00
3/03 62
Total 182

I will try to snap a picture of him this week so that his face
will start to become visible in the image.
